“Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.”
– Romans 8:5,6
![]() Dallas Willard once made the assertion that a human being is first and foremost a mind. Do you believe that? A person has a mind that influences a will and from that will, decisions are made that forge the course and trajectory of their life. This is the reason there is so much power in changing the way we think, both individually and as a society. In order for real change to be effected in churches, schools, and ultimately in the world, minds must be transformed. More than any other issue, it’s super-important that we cultivate right thinking about God. So much of how we perceive and experience life has to do with what and how we think about the One who created us. While some of us don’t believe He exists, still others think He’s indifferent or disinterested (the technical term for this is deist). Some of us think that He is involved, but that He’s mad at us or punishing us for some sinful thing we did or that our parents did. However, I am here today to tell you that all of these perceptions about the Lord are wrong! Friend, I beg you to change your thinking when it comes to the reality of God’s posture towards you. He isn’t like any of the cruel, indifferent, or punishing images you may have internalized. The truth is that He loves you and He is pleased with you, just as He is with His beloved Son, Jesus. When you understand the power and unshakability of His love, your whole world will change, and you will experience a freedom the likes of which you have never known. From a solid base of love, you will be empowered to do the supernatural and your faith will give your life impact beyond anything you could have imagined. Change the way you think about God and the world around you will change as a result! Isn’t that great news? |
