“In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.”

– Ephesians 2:21,22

Have you ever bought a house? If so, you understand the time, effort, stress, money, and energy that goes into the process. For most people, selecting a home is not something that is taken lightly. In the same way, your body was chosen and bought with a price in order that the Holy Spirit could live in it. In other words, you are God’s house!

You see, when Jesus went to the cross, he died not only to redeem your spirit but also your flesh; this is why the Apostle Paul says that you should honor God with your body. At the point in which you surrendered your life to the Lord, His Spirit took up residence in your earthly tent. He paid a huge price so that you could be set free from slavery to sin, and then He moved into the center of your being to make you more like Him. Now He lives in your earthly tent, having settled in and made Himself at home, and He abides there to do good works through you.

Friend, you are an ambassador for Jesus, and when you received Him into your life, He became a permanent dweller in your physical body. That means that the miracles, power, comfort and character of Jesus can be manifest and experienced through you, to others. This is why honoring God with your flesh requires that you keep your house clean. By not allowing the mess of habitual sin and yuck to live there, you are free to shine and be a beacon of Jesus’ light from the inside out. Isn’t that an amazing thought?

Prayer

I am honored and humbled, Jesus, that you choose to live in my body. Help me as I seek to honor you in my choices, habits, and behaviors.

How does it impact you knowing that God picked you to be His home and that He paid such a high price to make you His own?
