“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” -Romans 8:38
God’s gives us more than one calling. We always think that there’s this one great thing we’re supposed to do in life: I’m supposed to write a best-selling novel, I’m supposed to become the senator of California, I’m supposed to become an executive at my job. However, all of us have multiple callings from God, and the callings can change. Even Jesus had had multiple callings: He didn’t actually start his ministry until he was thirty. First, as a child, Jesus was a faithful student. Later, he was a faithful carpenter, building things and constantly interacting with people. But the whole time, God was preparing him for his next calling: to be a rabbi. Relatively, Jesus was a nobody. He was from the northern outskirts of Jerusalem, a little podunk part of the empire. Of course, God used Jesus’ background as part of his calling: to change the world. You never have just one calling: God is always going to use you in many different ways.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, thank you for calling me to multiple places. Thank you for your wonderful plan for my life, and for always using me.
REFLECTION: Have you noticed your multiple callings from God? What are they? Are you ready to be called to many different things?
