“My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.”
– James 1:19,20
We need to move from being ego-driven people who are always first to judge, to point the finger, or to call people out, to being a listening, healing, humble, life-giving presence in the world. Of course, this can be a challenge when people are cruel, unfair, unkind and rude, but life in the Kingdom of God enables us to be a force of mercy and healing, even in a society that is increasingly angry and hostile.
Our best life doesn’t come when we get really good at determining what’s wrong with the world and pointing it out, but rather, when we become the kind of people who are unoffendable, relaxed and walking in the easy rhythms of grace. This is what the seeking and wondering culture needs to encounter in order to truly see Jesus in us; it’s what makes us radically different!
Friend, I invite you to become a force of influence in world around you by simply exercising the power that Jesus has given to you to walk in grace. Let go of the little things that annoy you and show mercy to the least deserving. As you do this, the Holy Spirit will shine through you and you will have a great impact!
I pray for more of you, God, in my daily life. Make me unoffendable and give me your grace to show love to others.
What does it mean to you to be unoffendable?
